Keeping
our roots in mind has been a propellor for our community’s undoubted success
but forgetting those less fortunate has never been beneficial to our beautiful
country. We act with integrity in our lives and caring for poor and vulnerable
people. We believe in building a strong network to support all vulnerable
families and meet their needs with transformative and sustainable solutions
Alen Le`Wegen is established to alleviate lives and livelihood of people who are facing suffering and experiencing crisis. We aim to connect, collaborate and partner with individuals, communities, and organizations to create long-term positive impact, improve people’s life outcome, and reduce the resource scarcity.
Alen lewagen is a community-based organization and was collectively founded by concerned citizens of Ethiopia/Ethio-American.
Alen
Le’Wegen is a community-oriented service founded by concerned citizens of
Ethiopia and the Ethiopian Diaspora. On November 4th, 2020, Ethiopia was
engulfed in the flames of war; schools were destroyed, health care facilities
were ruined, and community services were looted, resulting in mass amounts of
people displaced. In addition, men and women defending their country were
quickly wounded and sometimes sacrificed. Therefore, in July of 2021, concerned
Ethiopians gathered their communities via Zoom and sought to make an urgent
plan to help the victims of various tragedies.
The
group quickly arranged three fundraisers resulting in over $250,000 being
raised and the money immediately distributed to the affected regions in
Ethiopian. Local authorities received the fund and provided proof of
documentation to Alen Le’Wegen. Our team members traveled to the war-affected
areas to assess the urgent needs and act accordingly. The team began to focus
on veterans who had dependents in the households (children, nieces, nephews,
elderly). As the head of families went to fight in the war, their dependents
were often neglected, which is where Alen Le’Wegen aims to provide the most
aid. While we strive to help all war victims, we emphasize children going to
school and making sure they receive adequate food, shelter, and clothes.
We
strive to focus on community resources as our diaspora stretches far and wide.
One person can change the lives of an entire family, outlining our primary
goal. This is where we need the community’s help to transform the circumstances
that folks in our home country have been put into. We are inviting you to be a
part of this organization, and in doing so, you can sponsor a family and change
the trajectory of someone’s future.
